We make five designs of longcase Grandfather clock, each available from
Solid Oak or Cherry and based on real clocks from times past.

Please note that although some images of our clocks are in Mahogany, because of the demise of Mahogany as a world resource we are now replacing our use of Mahogany with the truly worthy and beautiful Cherry wood for our Longcase clocks.

History notes

The longcase clock was introduced about 1660 following the invention of the pendulum as a means of regulating the mechanism. The long pendulum of about 39 inches (one metre) appeared in 1670 and increased accuracy further. The anchor escapement of 1670 is controlled by the swing of the pendulum. Many verge clocks were converted to use the anchor escapement which we still use today.
