French Polishing

French polish is a liquified shellac, and French polishing, said to have its origins in France in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries became international since Georgian times and has been in use ever since wherever fine furniture is made and antique pieces restored. When one of our clocks is made in its complete form, it is then taken down to its component parts ready for polishing and then reassembling . More important if it is to look right and wear well for many years , then French polishing must be done in an expert fashion, employing methods which are amongst the oldest in the wood finishing trade. We are very proud to have the services of such a skilled polisher to enhance the final stage in the completion of our clocks. We hope you enjoy these three images of him at work.
