Mark Laverton Clocks is a UK based family firm
making authentic reproduction clocks of 'Antique' character using the heritage
skills of England and the traditional materials necessary for
the building of such a unique piece from an age when mechanical
clocks were in their prime.
Our range of clocks
includes Grandfather clocks, Grandmother or Longcase clocks, Wall, Regulator
and Vienna Regulator clocks, Bracket or Mantel clocks and we also make two Banjo
Barometers.
Each of the specialist skills in the
production of our clocks is carried out by a true craftsman.
Couple with this the uniqueness of each piece of wood - then
every clock evolves with its own individual personality.
Our Woods & Finishes
The Longcase or Grandfather clock is the classic English
clock and is generally considered the finest achievement
of English clockmaking. Cabinetmakers at the end of the 17th
century used English Oak and by 1740 were using Brazilian
Mahogany; we use both of these magnificent woods in our Grandfather,
Bracket, and Wall clocks. The solid wood gives a truly beautiful
mellow sound to the chimes. The cases are antiqued, and then
traditionally finished by French polishing, We also offer
Ebonised clocks, and hand painted clocks using specially
prepared paints and patinas from Provence in southern France.

The Clock Dials
For our Grandfather, Bracket, and Wall clocks, we make our
own white and brass dials. Each of our solid brass dials
has a hand engraved centre and has engraved or cast brass
corner spandrels. Our deep etched brass chapter rings are
grained and silver plated. Our engraved designs are very
traditional, often based on original Grandfather clocks circa
1770. Our London range of Bracket clocks is based on a classic
Charles II clock circa 1775, and for these we also make our
own carrying handles as well as the spandrels, chapter rings,
and engraved dial plates.
A Very Special Timepiece
The clock whether it be a Grandfather
clock Bracket clock or Wall clock, more than any other
piece of furniture, becomes
very much part of the home, almost living, ticking away the
minutes and striking the hours – giving an atmosphere
and presence that no other piece of furniture could possibly
do. Clocks are remembered with affection and in the case
of Grandfather clocks often referred to by name within the
family circle. Indeed each one of our Grandfather clocks
being an individual starts off life with its own name, so
we know who has gone where. As we are a small family firm from the UK
your clock will be one of a few rather than one of many.
